12/10/2007:

The Chicago Hilal Committee received no valid sighting reports on Monday, December 10, 2007 (Dhul-Qadah 29, 1428). Dhul-Qadah will finish its course of 30 days. Dhul-Hijjah 1, 1428 will be on Tuesday night December 11, 2007/Wednesday December 12, 2007. Accordingly, Eid-ul-Adha will be on Friday, December 21, 2007. We wish everyone a blessed Dhul-Hijjah and an early Eid Mubarak!

11/12/2007:

The Chicago Hilal Committee will be holding its meeting on Monday, December 10, 2007 at the Islamic Center of Chicago (ICC) to determine the start of Dhul-Hijjah and consequently the date of Eid-ul-Adha (Dhul-Hijjah 10, 1428). The possible dates for Eid-ul- Adha are Thursday, December 20, 2007 or Friday, December 21, 2007. The most likely date according to astronomical information is Thursday, December 20, 2007.

There will be regular updates on this site after Maghrib (CST) on Monday, December 10, 2007.

11/12/2007:

The Chicago Hilal Committee has confirmed that there was no moon sighting across the United States on Saturday, November 10, 2007. Consequently, Shawwal completed its full cycle of 30 days and the the first day of Dhul-Qadah is Monday, November 12, 2007.

10/11/2007:

9:30pm

The Chicago Hilal Committee received no valid moon sighting reports tonight, Thursday, October 11, 2007. Alhamdulillah, we are blessed to have another day in Ramadan. Ramadan will complete its course of 30 days and Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Saturday, October 13, 2007.

The committee would like to wish everyone a happy Eid Mubarak in advance. Please keep the committee in your du'as.

The meeting is in session. No moon sighting reports have been received as of yet. Updates will be made every 15 minutes or so. Please check back for more information.

6:30am:

Insha'Allah, the Chicago Hilal committee will meet tonight, Ramadan 29, Thursday, October 11th at the Islamic Community Center of Chicago. The committee will receive moon sighting reports from across the nation.

Should the moon be sighted on tonight, Eid-ul-Fitr will be tomorrow, Friday, October 12th.

Should the moon not be sighted on tonight, Ramadan will complete its course of 30 days and Eid-ul-Fitr/Shawwal 1, 1428 will be Saturday, October 13th.

According to astronomical information, the moon is not expected to be sighted tonight. Ramadan is expected to complete its course of 30 days and Eid-ul-Fitr is expected to be on Saturday, October 12th. However, the committee will fulfill its duty in monitoring reports from anywhere in the nation.

Please visit back tonight after Maghrib (CDT). The first update will be around 6:45pm Insha'Allah.

10/02/2007:

Insha'Allah, the Chicago Hilal committee will meet on Ramadan 29, Thursday, October 11th at the Islamic Community Center of Chicago. The committee will receive moon sighting reports from across the nation.

Should the moon be sighted on Thursday evening, Eid-ul-Fitr will be Friday, October 12th.

Should the moon not be sighted on Thursday evening, Ramadan will complete its course of 30 days and Eid-ul-Fitr/Shawwal 1, 1428 will be Saturday, October 13th.

Please visit back on Thursday, October 11th after Maghrib. The first update will be around 6:45pm insha'Allah.

9/12/2007:

9:15pm:

RAMADAN MUBARAK! The committee confirmed an authentic report out of Macomb, Illinois and Gurnee, Illinois. The committee has approved these reports and consequently declares tonight the 1st night of Ramadan, 1428. The first day of Ramadan is Thursday, September 13, 2007.

The first night of Itekhaf (21st night): Tuesday, October 2, 2007.

The committee will meet on the 29th of Ramadan, Thursday, October 11, 2007 to receive reports of moon sighting across North America in regards to the end of Ramadan/Eid-ul-Fitr/Shawwal 1, 1428.

The possible dates for Eid-ul-Fitr are Friday, October 12, 2007 or Saturday, October 13, 2007.

8:40pm:

The committee is currently investigating reports out of the East Coast and Midwest. Many of the previous calls have turned out to be people who are simply reiterating the declaration out of Toronto. Nothing valid or authentic has been received as of yet.

8:25pm:

The committee has rejected the sighting report out of Barbados because it is not part of the Matla of North America as pre-determined by the committee.

It is currently attending to other sighting reports.

8:20pm:

The committee is currently investigating reports out of the East coast regarding moon sighting. The committee is still deliberating the report out of Barbados. Since the report out of Barbados is not a part of the Matla of North America as determined by the committee, it cannot be relied on as the sole testimony.

8:10pm:

The Chicago Hilal Committee is currently deliberating the announcement out of Toronto that Ramadan is tomorrow. The sighting accepted by the Toronto committee was done in Barbados.

7:55pm:

The Chicago Hilal Committee meeting is in session. The committee is currently contacting its representatives across the country. Insha'Allah updates will be made as more information is received.

8/14/2007:

Tuesday night 08/14/2007 & Wednesday 08/15/2007 is Shaban 1, 1428
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Shaban, 1428. There were no valid reports of moon sighting anywhere in the United States on Monday, August 13, 2007. Consequently, Rajab will complete its full cycle of 30 days, and Shaban will begin at Maghrib on August 14, 2007. The 1st of Shaban is Wednesday, August 15, 2007

The Chicago Hilal Committee will meet on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 at ICC in Chicago to receive reports of moon sighting around the country. According to astronomical information, most probably the moon will be sighted and the first day of Ramadan will be Thursday, September 13, 2007. If the moon is not sighted, however, the first day of Ramadan will be Friday, September 14, 2007.

A decision will be made after Maghrib prayer (7:04pm). Updates will be posted every 5-10 minutes. The first update will occur around 7:30pm.

5/20/2007:

Thursday night 05/17/2007 & Friday 05/18/2007 is Juma'ada al-Awwal 1, 1428
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Juma'ada-al-Awwal, 1428. Based on deliberations that confirmed moon sighting, Rabi-al-Thani ended with 29 days and Juma'ada al-Awwal began on Thursday, the 17th of May at Maghrib (sunset). The Chicago Hilal chairman, Maulana Abdullah Saleem, along with a group of others sighted the moon in Elgin, IL. The committee also authenticated reports from Glendale Heights, IL and Ithaca, NY.

4/19/2007:

Wednesday night 04/18/2007 & Thursday 04/19/2007 is Rabi-al-Thani 1, 1428
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Rabi-al-Thani, 1428. There were no valid reports of moon sighting anywhere in the United States. Consequently, Rabi-al-Awwal completed its full cycle of 30 days, and Rabi-al-Thani began at Maghrib on April 18, 2007. The 1st of Rabi-al-Thani is Thursday, April 19, 2007.

3/21/2007:

Monday night 03/19/2007 & Tuesday 03/20/2007 is Rabi-al-Awwal 1, 1428
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Rabi-al-Awwal, 1428. Based on deliberations that confirmed moon sighting, Safar ended with 29 days and Rabi-al-Awwal began on Monday, the 19th of March at Maghrib (sunset). Authentic moon sighting reports were received from Elgin, IL, Arizona, Houston, TX and California.

2/19/2007:

Sunday night 02/18/2007 & Monday 02/19/2007 is Safar 1, 1428
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Safar, 1428. There were no valid reports of moon sighting anywhere in the United States. Consequently, Muharram completed its full cycle of 30 days, and Safar began at Maghrib on February 18, 2007. The 1st of Safar is Monday, February 19, 2007.

1/20/2007:

Friday night 01/19/2007 & Tuesday 01/20/2007 is Muharram 1, 1428
The Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Muharram and the year 1428. Based on deliberations that confirmed moon sighting, Dhul-Qadah ended with 29 days and Muharram began on Saturday, the 20th of January at Maghrib (sunset). Thus, the Chicago Hilal Team would like to welcome the month of Muharram. There were multiple confirmed sighting reports in California.
